"Say YES to the abundance of the Universe" Jim Carey, Actor

Have you seen the film “Yes Man” yet? I went to the cinema to see it last week and I thought it was ace!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the film,

Yes Man is a comedy about what would happen if one man said ‘yes’ to everything, including things that he would have previously dismissed with a cursory ‘no’. This leads to a series of adventures for Carl (Jim Carey) transforming his life in amazing and unexpected ways, getting promoted at work and of course finding a new romance. However in true Hollywood style saying “yes” to everything soon lands Jim Carey’s character in hot water and his new amazing life starts to become complicated! For me, parts of the film were “laugh out loud” funny and Jim Carey was his usual brilliant self, (apparently he did most of the stunts himself, including a bungee jump - must not have wanted to say no! Ha!)

But before you start thinking I’ve turned from a coach into a film critic extraordinaire I have to say that behind the film makers “cheese” it did make me think.

I did start to wonder about my “yes” and “no” decisions - how many of my “no” decisions should be “yes” and how many of my “yes” decisions should be ”no.“ How many things do I say “yes” to that tie me up in metaphorical knots, make me feel depressed, selfish if I say “no” and puts me in Victim City where my inner pessimist has a field day?

So I’ve decided to make a pact with myself that each day I’m going to conscientiously think about my decisions and make sure I say “yes” to at least one thing that will allow me to feel relaxed/alive/healthy/funny/connected/peaceful and a resounding “no” to something that’s going to make me feel stressed/gloomy/resentful/trapped/unhappy.

Want to give it a try? Shall we make 2009 the year of saying YES! To the abundance and joy of life?

Let me know what you think.
