Happy Hour at Work
“We do not become happy because we are successful, we become successful because we are happy.” Success Intelligence, Robert Holden
Background
In the increasingly competitive and difficult business climate in which companies operate, the need for strategies to improve the health and resilience of employees has become all the more important.
According the HSE the annual cost of workplace stress to the UK is £530 million and estimates from the Labour Force Survey indicate that self-reported work-related stress, depression or anxiety account for an estimated 13.5 million lost working days in Britain in 2007/08
In Dame Carol Black’s 2008 review of the health of Britain’s working age population “Working for a Healthier Tomorrow” research was cited to confirm that a focus on employee wellbeing can add value to organisations by promoting better health, increasing motivation and engagement of employees. This in turn, helps to boost productivity and profitability.
Our Aim
“Happy Hour at Work” Workshops seek to address areas of wellbeing associated with mental and emotional health. Building emotional and mental health helps people to handle challenges, build strong relationships and lead productive lives in and outside of work. It helps to develop resilience – the ability to “bounce back” and cope with stressful events or situations.
It has been designed to form part of corporate wellbeing packages for employees, i.e. it will complement other wellbeing campaigns such as smoking cessation and physical health checks. It is a sustainable and transferable series of workshops and has been developed in response to the growing body of evidence that “a happy worker is a more productive worker” whereby positive employee mental health/well-being and the prevention of stress are now recognised as significant determinants of performance and success in the workplace.
“Happy Hour at Work” maximises the impact on health and wellbeing of all employees across all sectors.
